I know it’s an overwhelming time for many during this COVID-19 phase of the year. Especially rooting for people with multiple school aged kids to have to homeschool for now.
I myself have a kinder kid, a 2 year old in early ed, and a 7 month baby. Of course my husband, thankfully, is able to work cut hours to keep our bellies appropriately full.
Yes, our structured days all went out the window after day 3 of our original spring break. I held on to a couple of things that are absolutely essential to getting back to normal after all this is over. Meal times, nap times, and bedtimes. Honestly as long as we don’t drive each other crazy who cares what the in-between parts of the day are or even what order. My oldest does have school work online, another thanks, which she gets done when she is in her best spirit. Same for my toddler, that girls gets her learning in right before nap time. And my baby, well, he learns all day. 🤩
NAP TIME I will tell you is simply THE BEST FRIEND in my day. They all nap at the same time. I may not always be able to nap as well with them, but I can at least lay, rest, and/or read for that time. I can’t imagine not being able to have a few minutes of silence, to clear my mind of to-do’s and the news, and to check in with loved ones a bit. I think everyone is and wants to do their best at this time. I surely do.
I’ll tell you that for me personally- NAP TIME is what gets me through my today’s.
I suppose a uniform comes with my job. So does equipment, vehicles, weapons, & skills. We are taught to maintain every aspect of our appearance & issued belongings.
Water, however, is an understated part of my uniform. To be honest, in my earlier training years, sometimes I took it for granted. I did happen to think about water every single day. I either should’ve, could’ve, or did drink water. Especially with being in the military, I’d get those regretting moments when I chose not to take advantage of a water break.
The ramifications of not drinking water gradually appeared in such a way that affected my physical & mental self. It happened gradually as I got dehydrated. First came body weakness, & then I’ve lost my train of though 3 times within 1 minute of trying to put a thought together.
Water. So simple & easily accessible. Which also adds to the fact that it’s an essential part of life, yet it’s so taken for granted. God has blessed us with clean water that plays a very essential part in our existence. There are countries, with either low or no supply of potable waters.
Being in the military only amplifies the regrets & symptoms for lack of appreciation.
I’d see people fainting because of dehydration. I would feel faint just sitting on the sidelines observing as they’re being helped by medics. There’s also the heat of the sun that crushes & tears down the body.
I have begun paving my road to making it a habit to make more positive thoughts, & experiences with water for myself. I mean seriously… for my health, for my family, for the sake of being the water needing human God created.
Especially during my military service… summers peak very high numbers in Texas. I’m going to need water to be a buddy strapped right next to my uniform somehow.
Being in the military has its perks. Although, I don’t always find it a perk to go camping in a structured setting. But nonetheless, it’s an unforgettable experience each & every time.
Of course we stay home or go out of state for such trainings. They always do a great job at finding a good tree line, or forest as one normally calls it.
I’m the type of person who gets lost in a moment. I am a daydreamer.
As we do sweeps of the area that surrounds us, as we take lunch breaks, when we just so happen to have nothing to do for hours, & even as we are about to pull an all-nighter just staring at the tree in front of us pulling security… I find it fascinating to imagine being there for a completely different reason.
I observe and absorb everything around me. The trees back home are miniature compared to the tallest and widest of trees in these forests. The ground we walk on is full of needle leaves which are so soft and comfortable to lay on at night. It never fails that I get a whiff of chamomile growing somewhere, & it drives me crazy that I can’t find the patch to pick a few flowers from. I pretend to hunt as I listen for movement near me. I soak up the peaceful moments in which I see the forest for the beauty that it is. If there is a stream of water I of course dip my fingers in to the clear water. So refreshing on a very hot and humid day, although sometimes the water is just as hot. When I see bugs or creatures I pretend they’re my friends & hope they follow me all the way home. Have you ever seen the stars as bright as they are when there is no distracting light for miles? The moon so much bigger, & the stars so much brighter & colorful. If there are clouds, you can see the colored aura emitting from the moon, or so that’s my theory, haven’t googled it yet.
Sometimes I wish I lived in a cottage in the middle of a forest. Unbothered by no one, an adventure a day, & soaking up nature.
Then my moment gets ruined by a task in my training reality, or by a scary movie I once saw that took place in an endless forest with crazy folklore.
Just a small phase, & it happens every time. At least it makes time go by faster as opposed to just sitting there blankly staring at the ant making its way into my MRE bag to try to take a crumb back to its hill. Then, time would be excruciatingly slow.
